Part of the Cigány Theater at Oz collection, this pillow features artwork from an original oil painting inspired by traveling performers, storytelling traditions, and the dreamlike world of Oz. The expressive portrait carries a sense of mystery, memory, and quiet theatrical magic. Printed on soft poly-canvas with a concealed zipper and double-sided artwork, this cushion brings an artistic, story-rich accent to reading nooks, studios, or living spaces. Created from original fine art by Shannon McClane at The Studio at Oz, where painting, narrative, and imagination meet.

Character Note from the Cigány Theater at Oz

In the Cigány Theater at Oz, every performer is more than an image — each carries a presence, a story, an echo from the hidden stage. These travelers arrive like fragments of music and myth, bringing with them symbols of longing, humor, devotion, and quiet mystery. To collect a painting from this series is to welcome one of these travelers into your own space — a guardian of atmosphere, a keeper of unseen narrative, and a companion from the ever-unfolding world of Oz.

Olivia — The Horse Mistress

Olivia, the Horse Mistress, carries a quiet warmth beneath her regal presence. Among the traveling troupe she moves with calm authority — a glass of garnet wine in hand and the gentle confidence to soothe even the fiercest stallion. She embodies the spirit of the wild refined, balancing fierce will with an air of tender mystery. When Olivia first appeared among the performers she was one of the smallest members of the acrobat troupe. She had been rescued after a violent storm in the foothills of the Caspian Mountains in Transylvania. When she was found she could not remember her name, and so she chose the name Olivia, after a character from a beloved storybook. From the beginning the horses trusted her. Olivia often slept in their stalls beside them, learning their language through quiet companionship and patience. Today she trains a new pony for a liberty act and continues working with several miniature horses in the traveling company. Like many members of the Cigány Theater, Olivia’s story is still unfolding, and she may appear again in future paintings from the world of Oz.
